World Bank needs to improve its efficiency – Mezouar says

Washington – Morocco’s economy minister Salaheddine Mezouar on Sunday underlined the need for improving the institutional governance, the transparency and the operational efficiency of the World Bank to adapt to the new economic reality and the 21th century’s challenges.

    The post-crisis context, marked by a massive state’s intervention in the economic field, the increasing importance of emerging countries and new challenges, requires an effort from the World Bank to gain more efficiency and proximity, he said in a statement handed over to the members of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank’s Development committee.

    The minister said that he backs the Bank’s conclusions on the adaptation process, which includes a review of its missions that should focus notably on fighting poverty and vulnerability, creating growth’s opportunities and reinforcing governance.
