US firms seek Algeria, Tunisia partnerships

 

The Maghreb’s promising technology and communications sectors are catching the eye of US companies.

A delegation of US businesspeople visited Tunisia and Algeria this week to show interest in building stronger trade ties and investing in local businesses.

The delegation, which was led by US Department of Commerce Deputy General Counsel Nicole Lamb-Hale, stopped in Tunisia on Monday (February 15th) and in Algeria on Wednesday.

The delegation, which included 24 representatives from US companies, met with the Tunisian-American Chamber of Commerce (TACC) in Tunis to learn more about the co “The purpose of the visit was to allow the American investor to learn about the opportunities for collaboration…in Tunisia”, TACC executive director Rafla Mrabet told Magharebia on Tuesday.

“Our actions are guided by a very specific purpose: to promote Tunisia as a location for investment and partnership,” TACC president Nazah Ben Ammar told WMC, a financial news outlet, on Tuesday. He said TACC is primarily focused on developing partnerships in the IT, automotive components, aerospace, pharmaceuticals, education and research and development sectors.
